With the participation of Maria Cristina Bifulco, Chief Investor Relations, Sustainability and Communication Officer, Prysmian took part in the event “Green and Blue Festival – Ripartiamo da Zero, I numeri per il futuro del pianeta.” This was an opportunity to explore topics related to sustainability and the environment through panels, interviews, and speeches.
Bifulco: “Innovation means being able to look ahead. When a cable is installed, it can theoretically last up to 100 years: our goal is to ensure that, over this time span, the environmental impact is as low as possible—or even positive. Our biodiversity target is ambitious because we want to leave the ecosystem in better condition than we found it, and our impact is tangible: in two years, the energy transported by Prysmian cables has reached nearly 2 million households. It’s a privilege to work in a business that improves people’s lives by connecting them and offering opportunities. Inclusion and social impact are integral parts of our vision. The financial world was the first to recognize the value of sustainability as a key factor. Funds demand rigor, clarity, and alignment with best practices.”
Bifulco: “Among our most recent innovations, Prysmian has patented a robot (E3X) capable of increasing the voltage of overhead lines, reducing civil works and environmental impacts. But our sustainable vision has deep roots: as early as 2006, we launched a fully recyclable technology, when sustainability was not yet a market priority.”
Bifulco: “The role of leaders like us, and of companies, is precisely to look ahead and pave the way. For Prysmian, sustainability is not a trend but a strategic responsibility: our priorities stem from the belief that every company must contribute concretely to leaving a better world. Prysmian has brought forward its Net Zero target to 2035, well ahead of the internationally set deadline. We accelerated because we feel this responsibility deeply, and we want to involve customers and suppliers in our journey. Prysmian operates in over 50 countries worldwide; the real challenge is to translate our global priorities into local contexts with the same effectiveness and responsibility.”
Bifulco adds: “By 2028, we expect that over half of Prysmian employees will become shareholders of the company, including factory workers: we want those who contribute daily to our success to benefit tangibly from it. My personal challenge is to be consistent every day, focusing resources and skills in areas where we can make a difference. Seeing the concrete impact we generate, and the fact that we are often the ones leading the way on many issues, is a great source of pride.”
