Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS): Cable, Connectivity and Monitoring Solutions
Reliable BESS infrastructure for renewable energy storage, grid stability and long-term performance
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) store electricity when renewable generation exceeds demand and release it when power is needed. By supporting grid balancing, peak shaving, backup power and the integration of solar and wind energy, BESS technologies are becoming essential to modern, resilient and low-carbon power networks.
Prysmian provides BESS cable solutions, accessories, monitoring technologies and services designed for utility-scale energy storage plants, commercial and industrial installations, renewable energy projects and grid connection infrastructure. Our portfolio helps developers, EPC contractors, utilities, system integrators and asset owners improve safety, simplify installation and protect long-term system reliability.

Supporting one of Europe’s largest battery energy storage systems

Reference Case: Project Mufasa, The Netherlands
Supporting one of Europe’s largest battery energy storage systems
Project Mufasa, developed by Return Industrial Solutions, is one of the largest Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects in Europe. Located in Vlissingen, in the North Sea Port area of the Netherlands, the project is designed to strengthen grid stability, support renewable energy integration and improve the flexibility of the Dutch power system.
Project Mufasa will deliver large-scale energy storage capacity of approximately 350 MW / 1,400 MWh and is expected to become operational in 2027. The project demonstrates how utility-scale BESS infrastructure can help balance supply and demand, reduce grid congestion and support the transition from fossil-based power generation to renewable electricity.
From power transmission and grid connection to communication, control, fire protection and monitoring systems, projects of this scale require a reliable, integrated infrastructure approach across the full BESS architecture.
By supporting complex energy storage developments such as Mufasa, Prysmian helps enable safer, more resilient and future-ready electricity networks. In BESS projects, every connection plays a critical role.
Reference Case: BOS Energy Project, Estonia
Powering Estonia’s Energy Storage Future
The BOS Energy Project in Paldiski, Estonia, is a major Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) development designed to support grid stability and participate in frequency regulation markets.
The project features a 25 MW / 50 MWh energy storage system and has been developed with battery technology partner Cubenergy. In addition to the BESS installation, a new 110/33 kV customer substation was constructed, together with approximately 1.8 km of 110 kV cable and 4.1 km of new 33 kV underground cable infrastructure.
Connected to the Elering Paldiski 110 kV substation, the project strengthens the local electricity network while creating the potential for future integration of a solar park.
