Hollow Core Fiber: Prysmian and Relativity Networks deploy their highest density HCF cable to date
Testing confirms the reliable deployment of a hollow core fiber cable in DuraLine microducts

Prysmian and Relativity Networks have reached a new milestone in the deployment of highdensity cable solutions incorporating Relativity Networks' ChronoCore™ hollow core fibers, successfully completing high-density cable deployment tests in collaboration with Dura-Line, a leading manufacturer of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) conduit solutions.
Testing at Dura-Line’s flagship test facility in Clinton, Tennessee confirmed the reliable installation of a high-density cable incorporating Relativity Networks' ChronoCore™ hollow core fibers at jetting speeds of up to 350 ft/min—demonstrating the technology’s readiness of the solution for real-world deployment and marking a meaningful technical step forward for the development of cutting-edge AI optical infrastructure and data center networks.
The cable, based on Prysmian's Sirocco™ cable architecture and incorporating Relativity Networks' ChronoCore™ hollow core fibers, combines Prysmian's expertise in high-density cable design and manufacturing with Relativity's breakthrough hollow core fiber technology. The solution delivers the expected optical performance while supporting the development of next-generation low-latency data center infrastructure.

Prysmian is already scaling production of Relativity Network’s hollow core fiber, including investments in its Eindhoven facility, while its Claremont, North Carolina plant has successfully manufactured the cable with 24 hollow core fibers in a 10mm diameter cable, meeting customer attenuation requirements. This is an essential step forward for the major US data center market.

About Hollow Core Fiber
In a hollow core fiber, a glass waveguide guides light through an air-filled core. Because the speed of light in air is faster than the speed of light in glass, hollow core fiber transmits data nearly 50% faster than traditional glass communications fiber, minimizing latency in timecritical applications.
One specific use case is data center interconnect, where the transmission speed of traditional glass optical fibers limits the distance between data centers in a synchronized cluster to 60 km. Deployment of hollow core fiber could allow data center operators to extend that distance to 90 km (56 miles), enabling optimized data center siting where land, power, and water are all in short supply.
